Home visitor needed for an 89-year-old male holocaust survivor who suffers from chronic stomach pains. He is independant for ADLs, and dependant for IADLs, but has the aid of his son. Client currently lives at home with his son who cares for him. Client is tri-lingual, English, Yiddish and Polish. The ideal volunteer, male or female, would be sensitive and compassionate and have the maturity to hear and respond to memories of the holocaust.

Volunteer needed as a friendly visitor to a 75-year-old male in need of social stimulation and outings. The client, who is francophone but also speaks English, is pleasant and currently lives in a residence. He uses a walker and has limited mobility but enjoys the outdoors, listening to music and reading biographies.

Volunteers needed to help with social activities and games or with pastoral services for seniors with reduced autonomy living in the Bruchési residence, near the Papineau Métro. Requirements: punctuality, sociability, responsibility, patience, teamwork.

Volunteers needed to assist nursing staff to feed elderly residents in this NDG nursing home. Meals take place three times a day, seven days a week. Volunteers can help with other tasks as well as feeding the patients. Other volunteer activities include assisting staff with clinical and recreational activities such as friendly visits, shopping, escorts to medical appointments, bingo, musical activities, tea parties, pastoral activities (R.C. Mass, rosary group, hymn singing) and clerical work. Note: volunteers will be asked for character reference.

Requests can vary from once a week to once a month. Number of words vary as well, averaging 1 to 4 pages of text. French to English translation: experienced translator needed for the Centre’s quarterly publication’s News Briefs section, published concurrently in English and French and sent to 40 countries and over 300 libraries and religious institutions. Ecumenical or religious background knowledge an asset. Volunteers can work from home. If candidates have no access to a computer, the Centre has spare computers to use. Volunteers needed for friendly, one-to-one computer tutoring at clients homes, teaching them how to use email, the Internet, Web 2.0 options, as well as how to upload and share photos, organize files, and use Microsoft Office programs. Volunteers must possess good basic computer knowledge, teaching skills, be comfortable dealing with seniors and be fluent in either English or French. References required and a police background check will be carried out.

Il s'agit de venir chercher la personne au centre d'hébergement, de l'accompagner dans le minibus du transport adapté, de l'aider à se vêtir et dévêtir (en hiver), de l'aider à manger, de l'accompagner au besoin pour fumer (allumer sa cigarette), de l'assister lors de l'activité, et enfin de le raccompagner avec le transport adapté au centre d'hébergement.

A English-speaking male volunteer is needed to visit an 87-year-old gentleman who is socially isolated due to health problems. The gentleman is a former postman and avid storyteller, who would enjoy discussing history, current events and the news. Mileage will be reimbursed if the volunteer transports the client on an outing.

N.D.G. Community Committee on Elder Abuse needs retired professionals to volunteer for its substance abuse program. Empathy, tolerance and patience are required.
