Friendly visiting

  • Volunteer grocery shoppers and drivers are needed to visit seniors at home in NDG, Côte-Saint-Luc, Montreal West, Snowdon West and Hampstead, to provide them assistance with grocery shopping. The volunteer will travel with or without the client (depending on client’s health) to the store, purchase items, and return them to the client’s home. In addition the volunteer can provide some companionship and spend time visiting with the client on a weekly basis. Skills required: be able to handle grocery bags, be budget and health conscious, friendly, and flexible. English, French and/or a third language is required. Preference of availability is weekdays, but weekends are acceptable. He also needs someone to occasionally accompany him to medical appointments to assist with translations from Farsi to English or French. His daughter is his main caregiver but she is having work issues due to the medical accompaniments for her father. Volunteers are asked to visit these people in their living homes or go for coffee, to museums, parks, etc. They offer their presence and empathic listening while stimulating speech, reading and writing skills. We need patient, creative, autonomous and highly reliable individuals. Volunteers must also be comfortable working with people with various disabilities.
