SPECIAL TOPIC WORKSHOPS

Youth-Friendly Workshop

When: March 28, 2012, from 9 to noon
Where:The Maison du développement durable, 50 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest.

In collaboration with Apathy is Boring and Volunteer Canada, this presentation gives participants a hands-on interactive guide to effectively engaging youth in the work of an organization.

Workshop leaders will go through the youth-friendly guide, expanding on the various sections and covering topics including:

    •    What is meant by "youth engagement"?
    •    Why "outreach" is a dirty word
    •    Using technology to reach youth
    •    Finding the fun: Effective meetings, accessible documents, and breaks
    •    Youth in Decision-Making: How to make it work

Trainer’s Toolbox:  openers, closers & the in-between

        When:Thursday, May 31st, 2012 from 9 to noon.

Recommended for:  Supervisors, Team leaders, Project leaders and Managers of Volunteers and Paid staff.

How can we make training sessions, orientations,meetings more engaging and effective?  Come and sample tools that can be used to enhance group participation and meet the learning objectives of the group.  At the end of this dynamic session participants will be able to:

  • Define the two main tasks of an effective trainer
  • Practice warm ups, energizers, closers and adapt these to their own context
  • Identify tools that help participants deepen their learning and increase the application of skills.

Participants will leave with an actual toolbox of exercises and applications for their workplace. 

Marisa Gelfusa is the Director of Training and Professional Development at Volunteer Toronto.  She has been a Director, Trainer and Consultant in the Non Profit Sector for over 15 years in Ontario and Quebec.   She is passionate about learning and facilitating events that engage participants and foster change.

As an active member of the community, she has volunteered in the areas of human rights, palliative care, community development and professional associations.

Registration and Fees

  • In order to register for a workshop, fill out the on-line registration form (link is below).
  • Space is limited.  Filling out the registration from does NOT guarantee a place in given workshop.  We will confirm your registration by email.

Workshop fees are as follows:

For one half-day workshop  $36  $40
For one full-day workshop   $72  $80
For The Essentials series  $240*  $320

*Essentially, a savings of the cost of one full-price workshop! 

 

*The VBM changed its Membership policy in July 2011.  If you have not filled out the Memerbship form and redeemed the new $50 annual fee, even if your organization has a file with the VBM, it is NOT a Member Organization. On-Site Training Sessions

This service is available to duly accredited non-profit organizations interested in adding to their volunteer resource management toolbox.

We are happy to present a workshop on-site, on your premises or as part of a special event (a conference, staff training day, etc.). and to tailor the content to respond to your organization’s needs, concerns, and particular interests.

Offering training to volunteers, staff and board members is an excellent way to enhance skills and motivation, as well as to promote a sense of unity of purpose within your organization. 

Please note that your organization must cover all workshop costs, as well as travel and meal expenses for our presenter.
