Volunteers needed to visit people 55+ with substance abuse problems, including alcohol and medications. Visits take place in the client's home or in a public place (café, restaurant, etc.) depending upon the availabilities of the individual. Volunteers will receive two half-days of training on topics pertaining to geriatric substance abuse. Qualities required: ability to listen, empathy, perseverance, patience, and enthusiasm. The organization is especially encouraging people with First Nations heritage to volunteer in order to better respond to the needs of this community.

Trilingual (French, English and Greek) volunteers needed to act as a community intervention and accompaniment assistants, helping clients complete forms (e.g., pensions, low-income housing, rental supplements, welfare, immigration, income tax, etc.), provide information and interpretation of documents, accompany elderly clients to appointments, keep appropriate records of interventions and activities, discuss complicated cases with the director or during team meetings, research pertinent information, participate in conferences or tables de concertation that are pertinent and approved by the director, help organize social and sensitization activities for the elderly or for the media, inform and report to the director pertinent and urgent matters and assist other members of the team as required. Requirements: team player, client driven, genuine concern about people’s welfare, good interpersonal skills, initiative, punctuality, good working knowledge (written and oral) of French, English and Greek.

The description of this request is only available in French. | Bénévoles recherchés è titre de membres organisateurs, soit des membres actifs qui auront comme responsabilités principales (a) de recevoir une formation de 12 ateliers étalés sur six mois à raison de trois heures par atelier (deux fois par mois) ou bien étalés sur trois mois (quatre fois par mois) : suite au succès de cette formation, le bénévole devient un membre permanent ; (b) de s'impliquer dans l'équipe opérationnelle afin de planifier, développer, organiser, gérer et mettre en œuvre, selon la vision et mission de l'organisme, des projets entrepris dans le but d'assurer son financement, sa croissance et sa pérennité sociale et (c) d'assister aux réunions régulières et spéciales selon le besoin.
